The Foibles of President Bush

This site is loaded with many reasons supporting the fact that George W. Bush is the "Worst President Ever"

I am not a fan of President Bush.  Collected here are all the various papers and letters to the editors that I have written about him, his mistakes and other related topics over the last few years.  The missives are listed in reverse order, that is, the newest will always be at the top of the list. Click on the blue title to view the document.

The actions of our illegitimate President have made this country less secure, poorer, more divided than ever and less respected world wide.  His mistakes have caused the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, all to help his questionable political goals.  He has failed the nation.

I had to laugh (as if that is an unusual response for me) when I heard a Republican friend of mine suggest that Mr. Bush is our President and all Americans should support and respect him for that reason alone.  This same person often took glee in pointing out the foibles of our past President, and he never gave Mr. Clinton any respect whether it concerned domestic or foreign affairs.  Double standards are alive and well.  While I disagree with Mr. Bush on almost every point, I do try to consistently give him the situational respect he is due.  I also try to use facts to form and support my opinions.  That is not to say that I am above getting shrill at times.  But in the end, this whole site is about opinions, specifically my perspective on the world and American politics.  (This must be my low-end form of a blog!?!)  Mostly I hope that these writings will get folks to think, and sometimes to argue.

Even if your a Republican hard core Neo-Con it's good to think.

The link immediately below points to a white paper that studies the US national debt.  The editorial links are listed a little further below.

United States National Debt, July 2003, updated and expanded in April 2005, June 2006 and May 2007

This is a study of the spending habits of our presidents since 1938.  It shows that Conservative Presidents out borrow and spend Democratic Presidents almost 3 to 1.  Just looking at the graph at the beginning of the study tells a powerful story:  In the last 30 years, if you wanted a President to be fiscally responsible, you had better vote for a Democrat.  Admittedly this study has the bias of a deficit hawk, but here are the facts, you can draw your own conclusions (the link points to an Excel spreadsheet, obviously if you do not have Excel this link will not work).

Most of the negative feedback received on the original paper concerned the lack of the comparison of the GDP to the national debt.  To correct this oversight the last update added a section on this topic.  The most recent dismal debt data was added and the percentages and analysis adjusted accordingly.

Addressed in the latest version is the role of Congress in the amassing of our debt.  Both the right and the left may be surprised by the facts here.

I was shocked to see how far this document has spread.  If you do a Yahoo or Google search for "United States National Debt" (with the quote marks) this study comes up on the first page.  I am guessing that is why it is referenced on dozens of other web sites.  Both professors and students have used the graphs in colleges across the county.  I should have copy righted this one.

List of Editorials in reverse chronological order

Bush Still Wrong Mar 2007

The President has been wrong every step of the way in Iraq, why should believe anything he has to say now?

Money is not Equal to Speech Jan 2007

I disagree with the Supreme Court with this one.

Student Loan Policy Jan 2007

The new Congress got it half right on student loans.

Diplomatic Surge Needed Jan 2007

What the President seems to be ignoring is that his occupation can not be resolved by the military alone.  Since this has been written more and more politicians are saying the same thing.

Lefties Hate Bush, not America Jan 2007

This letter is a reaction to a misguided sole's letter to the editor (included).

New Congressional Priorities Dec 2006

Here is my short list of what the new Congress should be working on.  It is my hope that the Democrats will remember what the Republicans forgot, they are there to do the peoples business and not just further enrich the rich.

NeoCon Hate Speech Nov 2006

This letter is a reaction to the Washington State Republican leader calling for censorship of college professors.

Stop Robo-Calls Sep 2006

This is a letter sent to my Congressman and Senators.

I am not an Anti-Semitic Aug 2006

This is not a Mel Gibson apology, it is my historical view of the Middle-East and a proposed solution.

Cynical Republican Congress Aug 2006

This one is a bit too long for the paper.  When our Republican Congressional leaders came up with the scam to join the repeal of inheritance tax with giving those who need it most a raise I kind of boiled over.

Right-Wing Smear Campaign Against Freedom of Speech June 2006

This outburst came after the Bush Administration attempted to crucify the New York Times for doing their job.  It got published in the July 4th Herald, quite fitting that a freedom of speech letter should be published that day.  There were two predictable responses (one given here), we must give up our freedom to fight the nebulas war on terror.  So I wrote a response that will probably never get printed.

Nuclear Moral Authority?  May 2006

It is hard to stand tall on a sanitary pedestal when it is so tarnished.  This one actually got in the Everett Herald on May 8th, 2006

Doctrine of Preemption a Failure  March 2006

A few thoughts on our Presidents misguided foreign policy.

If Allowed, Religion Will Force America into Decline  November 2005

Religion can be used to keep us stupid.  I am against that.

Republican Judicial Double Standard  November 2005

These guys think we are not paying attention.

Iraq-gate  October 2005

The press won't use the term but it sure fits.

2006 GOP Campaign Poster  September 2005

This poster is an out-crop of the story below...

Where has All the Freedom Gone?  August 2005

On a recent visit to our nations Capital I was subjected to more searches in two weeks than I ever thought possible.  This short missive is illustrated with a photo taken during the visit that really catches the security trend in our Capital today.

Reagan National Airport Not Secure  August 2005

My trip to DC sparked quite a few editorial outbursts (five in total).  But it was upon returning home that I discovered the problem discussed in this letter.  A form of this letter was eventually sent to the top 20 folks at TSA (love those web site org charts).  Six of them responded, of those responses most were predictable, "Your letter has been sent to someone who cares."  One of the top lawyers there though took the time to write a letter that addressed every point in my letter except one, the main point -- if people can steal stuff out of our luggage at airports what is to prevent them from sticking bad stuff in.

Fundamentalist Jihad Must End  August 2005

This letter calls for Reverend Pat Roberson to be taken off the airwaves before someone acts on the violence he has repeatedly tried to insight.

Gaza  August 2005

While I was in DC the Israeli's pulled out of Gaza.  Here is my reaction to that historic move.

Supreme Court Nominees  August 2005

This is a plea for the President to do the right thing (hum that was not a pun but it could be).  Totally out of character, the President seems to be moving toward the middle on this one.  Only time will tell.

Iraqi Constitution  August 2005

It appears that the Bush administration is not satisfied with just screwing up our government.

Cut and Run from Iraq?, June 2005

Should we pull out or stay in Iraq.  I come to a conclusion after presenting my conflicted views on the topic.  I also point out a string of calls that I made in the writings below that show I can predict the future much better than the President.

Social Security, June 2005

Once again I disagree with the Bush Administrations approach, I know big surprise.  This one got in the local paper.

Major Energy Failure, March 2005

No matter what he is telling us, Mr. Bush has missed the boat on this one.  There are even a few suggestions for how to solve the problem.

Wasted Congress, March 2005

A very short but sweet review of the way Congress chooses to spend their time.

Bushism, February 2005

A term is coined for the Bush era.

Gay Marriage, February 2005

This is not really Bush bashing so much as it is religious bigot bashing.

Mr. Bush Worships a Very Strange God, October 2004

Religion has slowed scientific progress in the past but has never stopped it.  Mr. Bush can not stop the benefits that will come from cloning either, he can only slow them down.  Sadly he is doing this in the name of God.  Somehow this letter got printed in the Seattle Times letters to the editors section.

Failed Foreign Policy, September 2004

Mr. Bush needs to adjust his thinking to win the war in Iraq, and he is promising us that he will not.

Impeach Bush, June 2003

If the threshold for impeachment is lying then to be consistent we should be working to impeach Mr. Bush.  This letter was printed in the Everett Herald on July 3rd, 2003.

Anti-Tax Conservatism is Hurting our Nation, June 2003

After writing this I decided to look up the facts that resulted in the debt study above.  This one was submitted to the Herald but never printed.

Bush Helps Terrorists Win, June 2002

This is a call for better funding for fighting the terrorist threat, and suggests a different approach than the President is taking.  This one was never printed.

Bush Takes Wrong Approach to 9/11 Intelligence Failure, May 2002

Hiding the truth is the wrong way to go in a democracy or to fight terrorism.  This one got in the paper.

Mr. Bush's War, March 2002

This letter points out the un-Constitutionality of all the wars Mr. Bush is starting.  This one also got printed

What is Our Out Strategy?, March 2002

Still a relevant question that some of us were asking before we went to war with Iraq.  Unfortunately in hind-sight it is obvious that the Bush administration did not take the question seriously enough.  The Everett Herald editors chose to put this one in the paper.
