Don't encourage hate of U.S. abroad

I recently returned from a tour of India. The tour group, composed mostly of elite academia, totaled 14. They were extreme liberals who never stopped condemning America. For example: "President Bush is a war criminal and should be put to death." "President Bush wants to destroy Social Security and starve the old people."

They blamed America first. America was always wrong. The Indian people heard this daily from these liberal American mouths. I pointed this out to them and the liberals all came down on me, saying I was ruining the trip by causing disharmony.

I'm sure this confused the Indians because they would do anything to get to America. There was a time we heard of the ugly American tourist. Today we have the dangerous American tourist. We now not only have CNN, ex-presidents, ex-vice presidents, movie stars, and wannabe presidents spreading hatred for America around the globe, we have liberal tourists doing it, too.

America is a family - our personal squabbles should remain here. By taking their hatred beyond our borders, they are reinforcing the lies spread by America's enemies.

There are many American haters all over this planet. Many tourists think that by talking badly about America to a native of a foreign country, they will be accepted by the natives.

We have politicians going abroad saying terrible things about America to get applause and acceptance. These politicians are so stupid they think America won't hear about it back home. Every day you hear the liberals express how America is hated around the world. (I wonder why.)

Lefties Hate Bush, Not America

Peter McKeown’s letter to the editor on the 9th of January (Don't encourage hate of U.S. abroad) demonstrates that he does not understand what he is hearing.  In his letter he gives two examples of Liberal hate speech, both were not about hating America, they were all about finding fault with our current President.  Most lefties, such as myself, do not like the President for some pretty good reasons – he is stealing our freedom from us, he is the direct cause of thousands of innocent people being killed and he has tarnished America’s image at home and overseas.  Lefties do not hate America, we want to save it.  We want to restore America to what it was before Mr. Bush twisted it into a semi-police state of fear.  What many of us do hate is what the Neo-Cons are doing to destroy our country, our middle class, our families and our freedom.

To put this into perspective, when the Right wing endlessly went after President Clinton for sex scandals, did they hate America or did they hate the President?  I think they hated the man, not the country.  How then is this situation different?  As I understand their thinking, the right thought that Mr. Clinton was skewing the moral compass of the country.  What the left is complaining about is that we see Mr. Bush eroding our freedom, and we are speaking out in an attempt to save the country.  Clearly one can love America and not approve of the President, and I for one will speak out against our incompetent President where ever I am.

The truth is I do not hate Mr. Bush.  I am however disgusted with his actions and feel that as an American I can not blindly stand by and not speak out.
