Nuclear Moral Authority?
4 May 06
The Bush administration is demanding that Iran not develop nuclear weapons, but on what authority? Surely if any foreign leader unilaterally demanded that the US destroy our nuclear arsenal it would be a laughing matter, how is the opposite anything different?
The President has said he wants to resolve the problem of a nuclear Iran with diplomacy. The obvious gap in his plan is that he has made no effort to actually talk to the Iranians. At the same time he has had someone leak that we are considering bombing Iran with nuc’s (not exactly the moral high ground).
Through Mr. Bush’s inept foreign policy he has forced Iran into the position where they believe if they do not develop nuc’s our cowboy President will very likely order an invasion. It is a logical conclusion on their part, Iraq had no nuc’s and the President ordered an invasion. North Korea has nuc’s and the President is saying the best approach is diplomatic. A clearer signal could not be sent to the dictators of the world; if you have nuc’s you do not have to worry about an American invasion.
The administration’s rhetoric about Iran sounds just like the contrived drum beat they gave us on the build up to war in Iraq. This administration has screwed up in Afghanistan by not pursuing that war because they distracted themselves with their inept pursuit of war in Iraq. Now Mr. Bush wants to open yet another front before he has resolved the last two wars. It is no wonder that this President’s approval rating is so low; he has repeatedly demonstrated he does not have what it takes to be a competent leader at home or abroad.
How many more Americans must die to satisfy partisan Republican political ambitions?
